In July 2003, started the three-year hearing into Alan Bond's Bell group of companies - one of the nation's longest-running and most expensive civil actions.

Adjunct Professor of Law and visiting lecturer in law at both University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame Australia.

James Tilbury

Served in advisory and investment roles, leading investment into about 80 climate tech startups and advised many more.

Co-founded EnergyLab (focusing on decarbonisation) and advises Boomerang Labs (circular economy) and the Ocean Impact Organisation.

Established a network of 150 angel investors keen to back climate tech founders.

Currently works with Boston Consulting Group, advising companies and governments engaging in net-zero target setting, decarbonisation strategy, green growth market entry, climate-related financial disclosure, and climate scenario analysis.

Dr Stephen Cronin

Marist College Ashgrove 1973-1977.

Has composed numerous pieces including incidental music for stage and film, television, electronica, dance and concert music, commissioned, performed and recorded by leading Australian and overseas orchestras and groups.

Wrote the music for the 1986 Papal Mass for Pope John Paul II’s Australian visit.

Major awards include the inaugural Paul Lowin Prize, House Songs, Albert H Maggs Award, the Percy Brier Memorial Prize for Music Composition, a Vienna Modern Masters recording project, a Rotary Foundation Scholarship, and the Dalley-Scarlett Memorial Scholarship.

Served as Faculty member of the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University from 1986 to 2016, holding a range of roles as Head of Composition, Head of Music Materials, and Program Director – Postgraduate Coursework. 

The Hon. Kevin Rudd AC

Served as Australia’s 26th Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010, 2013. Served as Foreign Minister from 2010 to 2012.

On 13 February 2008, delivered the National Apology to the Stolen Generations in Australia and committed to “closing the gap” between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Currently President and CEO of Asia Society in New York, President of the Asia Society Policy Institute, Distinguished Statesman at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Distinguished Fellow at Chatham House and the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago, Senior Fellow at the Belfer Centre at the Harvard Kennedy School, Chair of UNICEF Sanitation and Water for All Committee, Chair of the Board of International Peace Institute, and Co-Chair of the National Apology Foundation. 

Matthew Hayden AM

Marist College Ashgrove 1987-1988.

15-year career representing Australia in cricket as a left-handed opening batsman.

Holds the record for the highest score made by an Australian batsman in Tests (380) and the highest individual test score by an opening batsman in Tests.

Received the Allan Border Medal (2002), Test Player of the Year (2002), Wisden Cricketer of the Year (2003), Wisden Batsman of the Decade (1996-2006) and ICC One-Day Player of the Year (2007).

Received the Order of Australia Award in 2010.

Inducted into the Queensland Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, and into the Australia Cricket Hall of Fame in 2017.

Inducted as an Honouree into the Bradman Foundation (2018).

Ambassador of the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.

Co-Patron with John Eales, of The Champagnat Trust. The Trust exists to provide bursaries for boys from families who are financially disadvantaged and might never have the opportunity to experience a Marist education.

Served as Senior Judge Administrator, Supreme Court of Queensland (1991–2007).

Awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2002.

Served as Chairperson and CEO of the Queensland Crime and Misconduct Commission in 2010-2011.

Justice Moynihan’s judgment in the Mabo case as a Queensland Supreme Court Judge gathered crucial local information to the Murray Islander’s case of native title and was key to the High Court decision in 1992 that led to the Native Title Act (1993) which created a framework that recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have rights and interests in certain land because of their traditional laws and customs.

Justice Moynihan’s 2008 Review of the civil and criminal justice system in Queensland report led to the Civil Criminal Jurisdiction Reform and Modernisation Amendment Act 2010 which contains the first stages of the Queensland government’s response to the report.

Proud Old Boy of Marist Ashgrove and chose to launch his memoir, Playing the Game, at the College in 2016. Sir Julius’ three sons are also Old Boys of the College.
