Named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2014 for significant service to Australian business and commerce.

Dr Frank Timmermans

Marist College Ashgrove 1958-1963.
Assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer during the war in Afghanistan for Medecins Sans Frontieres.

Worked impoverished areas in Africa and worked with victims of leprosy in India.

Upon his premature passing one of Frank’s medical colleagues commented: “Dr Timmermans’ life was one of the most productive, profound, adventurous and compassionate jewels of mankind.” 

Tyrone Noonan

Marist College Ashgrove 1984-1987.

Provided lead and backing vocals, guitar, keyboards, production and song writing for Brisbane band, “George”.

Debut album, Polyserena, rose to number 1 in the Australian charts, spent fifteen weeks in the Australian Top 10, sold double platinum and won an ARIA for Best New Artist.

Solo album “Utopia?” was Rolling Stone Magazine’s Album of the Week January 2021.

Most recently has been involved in youth musical education with the QLD Symphony Orchestra, and a mentor at a number of Brisbane High Schools

Colonel Frank Colley AM, CSC (Rtd)

Marist College Ashgrove 1965-1973.

29 years of service in Australian Army, achieving the rank of Colonel.

Awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) IN 2000 for service and expertise in Command of the School of Artillery.

Awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in 2003 for his work in strategic planning for Australian Defence Force operations in Iraq.

Following Army service, spent twelve years as a Defence Public Servant providing Senior Executive leadership of intelligence support to military operations as Chief Security Officer. 

Judge Terry Gardiner

Marist College Ashgrove 1973-1981.

Admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1987 and practised at the private bar from 1988-2012.

Appointed a Judge of the District Court (Qld) in 2019, was a Magistrate 2012-2014, the Deputy Chief Magistrate 2014-2019 and Chief Magistrate 2019-2022.

Classical saxophonist with the Berliner Philharmoniker and twenty other German orchestras.

Member of the highly regarded sonic.art saxophone quartet.

Lectures in saxophone at the Hochschule fur Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.

Br Peter Rodney fms

Marist College Ashgrove 1963-1971.

Studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.

Appointed Provincial Councillor 1995-2001.

Appointed as a General Councillor on the Marist Brothers General Administration in Rome for nine years.

Served as the Rector of the Marist Asia-Pacific Centre in Manila, The Philippines, from 2011 to 2017.

Provincial Councillor in the Province of Australia 2018-2022. 

Chief Judge Kerry O'Brien AM

Marist College Ashgrove 1966-1967.

Admitted to practice as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in December 1973.

Appointed as Judge of the District Court In 1989.

Appointed the Chief Judge of the District Court in 2014.

Named member of the Order of Australia for “significant service to the Law and to the Judiciary of Queensland” in 2021.

Major General David Mulhall DSC, AM CSC (Rtd)

Marist College Ashgrove 1973-1981.

Graduated from the Officer Cadet School Portsea into the Royal Australian Corps of Transport in 1984.

Promoted to Major in 1995, to Lieutenant Colonel in 2000 and Colonel in 2005.

Served in Iraq as the Chief of Plans (Logistics) Multi-National Force-Iraq, for which he earned the US Bronze Star.

Awarded Distinguished Service Cross in 2016.

Ray Meagher OAM

Marist College Eagle Heights1956-7 | Marist College Ashgrove 1958-1963.

Selected as a Queensland Rugby representative in 1968-9.

Starred as “Alf Stewart” in the TV series Home and Away, for 34 years.

Awarded the 1985 Penguin Award for the Best Performing Actor in a lead role, a Gold Logie in 2010 and a Silver Logie in 2018.

Awarded the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2017 for his work in the performing arts.

Brian Lindsay

Marist College Ashgrove 1946-1954.

Graduated from the Royal Military College Duntroon 1958.

Served in the Pacific Island Regiment 1959-1963, and in Papua New Guinea, Malaya and Borneo 1965-1967.

Served as an Infantry Commander in Vietnam 1968-1969.

Teacher at Marist Ashgrove in 1973-4 and 1983-1993.

Member of Queensland Parliament, 1975 and 1977 teaching one class per week at Marist Ashgrove in an honorary capacity.

Pietro Figlioli

Marist College Ashgrove 1997-2001.

Represented Australia at two Olympic Games (2004, 2008), three World Championships (2003, 2005, 2007), five World Leagues (2004-2008) and in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Represented Italy in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games winning Olympic Silver and Bronze medals.

Received the prestigious Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana.

Principal of St Peter Claver College, Riverview from 1997-2000; Marist College North Shore 2001-2007 and Trinity College Lismore 2008-2012.

President of Marist Schools Australia 2005-2007.

Provincial of Australia and Chair of the Marist Association of St Marcellin Champagnat since 2015.

First Provincial of the Province of the Star of the Sea (Oceania).

John Eales AM

Marist College Ashgrove 1980-1987.

Played for Queensland Reds 1990-2001 with Super Rugby Titles in 1992, 1994 and 1995.

Played 86 Tests with the Wallabies between 1991 and 2001, including 55 Tests as Captain 1996-2001. Highest scoring forward in Test Rugby history. Won the Rugby World Cup twice.

Made a member of the Order of Australia for services to Rugby Union and Charity in 1999.

Named Queenslander of the Year in 2002

Inducted into the Australian Institute of Sport “Best of the Best” in 2001, into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2003, to the International Rugby Board Hall of Fame in 2007, the Wallaby Hall of Fame in 2011 and awarded Legend status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2020.

Co-Patron with Matthew Hayden of The Champagnat Trust which provides bursaries for families that are financially disadvantaged and might never have the opportunity to experience a Marist education.

Des Connor

Marist College Ashgrove 1945-1953.

Represented Queensland as halfback from 1954 to 1959.

Selected to play for Australia, touring the British Isles and France in 1957/8 with the Wallabies.

Chosen as an All Black from 1961 to 1966.

Appointed coach of the Wallabies from 1968 to 1971.

Inducted into Wallabies Hall of Fame in 2008.

Dr Aaron Brandis

Marist College Ashgrove 1992-1999.

Named winner of the NASA Software of the Year and Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal.

Appointed as a leader for the Dragonfly mission to Titan as well as subject matter expert for InSight, Mars, Orion.

Principal investigator for NASA’s entry, descent and landing tool research and development.

Named an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
