On 13 February 2008, delivered the National Apology to the Stolen Generations in Australia and committed to “closing the gap” between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Currently President and CEO of Asia Society in New York, President of the Asia Society Policy Institute, Distinguished Statesman at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Distinguished Fellow at Chatham House and the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago, Senior Fellow at the Belfer Centre at the Harvard Kennedy School, Chair of UNICEF Sanitation and Water for All Committee, Chair of the Board of International Peace Institute, and Co-Chair of the National Apology Foundation.
