Marist College Bendigo
Marist College Bendigo welcomed 220 students comprising Years 7 and 8 to its new campus at Maiden Gully on Monday, 2 February.
Mr Darren McGregor the foundation Principal in his welcome reminded the students that their school is built on the land of the Jarra Jarra people and builds on the traditions of Marist Education which commenced in Bendigo in 1893.
In addition to the students and staff there were many parents present at this historic occasion and all were given the opportunity to inspect the new facilities which have been built to meet the needs of the first students at the College.
Purpose built to allow for the implementation of a Project Based Learning Model of education to deliver the Australian Curriculum, the state of the art facility is an enticing environment in which to engage the students.
Mr Denis Higgins, former Director of the Sandhurst Catholic Education Office, former student of Marist Brothers Bendigo and current Chair of the Marist College Advisory Council was at this first gathering. It was under Mr Higgins' leadership as Director, that the idea of a new school at Maiden Gully was first mooted in 2006 and in 2012 the decision to open it as a Marist School was finalised.
