Appointed to the ministry from 2007 to 2010, at various times held the portfolios of Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Gaming and racing, Minister Assisting the Premier on Veterans Affairs, Minister for Youth, Minister for Volunteering, Minister for Juvenile Justice.

Left Parliament in 2011 to return to the community sector, becoming the CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society in NSW, national Vice-President of the Society and finally the National President of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia.
