Catholic Education in the tradition of St Marcellin Champagnat

Marist Pilgrimage 2014

This year’s Pilgrimage has now concluded.  Once again it proved to be a most inspiring and engaging experience.  The 24-day journey began in with Marist communities in India before moving to Rome and then to France.  The pilgrims are pictured in front of the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière.  Applications for places in next year’s pilgrimage – which will repeat the 2013 programme of the Holy Land, Rome and France – will open shortly.

Easter Greeting 2014

One of Marcellin’s favourite verses of Scripture was “For it is in God that we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

May this Lord of Life fill you with joy and peace this Easter.

Opening at Red Bend Catholic College, Forbes

A warm and sunny autumn afternoon in a quite verdant Forbes provided a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor ceremony to mark the blessing and opening of new facilities at Red Bend Catholic College on 7 April.  A trade training centre, new TAS facilities, a hospitality centre, and a refurbished College Chapel were blessed by the Apostolic Administrator of Willcannia-Forbes (Bishop Michael Kennedy from Armidale) and local Federal Member, the Hon. John Cobb.  Other speakers included the present and former Principals, Brothers Michael Flanagan and John Hilet, and MSA National Director, Brother Michael Green.

New Facilities Opened at St Peter’s Maitland

On 3rd April, St Peter’s Maitland opened four new and refurbished buildings in a major, multi-million dollar upgrade of its campus.  Marcellin Place, the Uma Centre, the Brother Clarence wing (including the John Bell Theatrette) and the Administration Building were opened by the Hon. Bob Baldwin MP and blessed by Bishop Bill Wright, in the presence of Brother Michael Green (MSA National Director) and Ray Collins (Director of the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle), visiting Brothers and friends of the College, and the staff and students of the College.

Marist Basketball Carnival 2014

The 25th Australian Marist Basketball Carnival was hosted by Catholic College Sale in the first week of April.  As usual, the tournament was marked by a characteristic Marist family spirit, but also some strong on-court competitiveness.  In the boys’ final, St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill prevailed over pre-tournament favourites Marcellin College Bulleen in a tight match, while in the girls it was an all-Gippsland tussle between Catholic College Sale and Lavalla Catholic College Traralgon, with the hosts getting the gold.
